Directed by Dr Geoff Luck, the Sound Science Lab advances research at the intersection of the creative and brain sciences to elucidate how we perceive, understand, and experience music in daily life and applied contexts. 

Members of the Lab – many of whom are affiliated with the Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body and Brain (MMBB) – work on a range of projects:

• In The Rhythm of Life we're studying affects of ageing on tempo production and perception and developing new cutting-edge tempo estimation tools.
• AUDISSION is a deep tech project in which we're developing predictive tools with practical applications in the creative industries and beyond. 
• Music, Sports Performance and PA is a collaboration with the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences and in which we're exploring uses and effects of music during sports performance and physical activity.
• In Leisure Time Activities & Wellbeingwe're studying the mental health benefits of engaging with music and sports. 
• In Musiikkitauko – part of the MMBB – we're investigating how musical and physical cues can be used to support development of cognitive, social, motor and emotional skills, especially in children with developmental delays.
