The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, which specialises in the study of social change processes, is one of the leading social science research units in Finland.

We have are around 1500 undergraduate students and over 200 postgraduate students in our department and we employ more than 100 teachers and researchers.

Learn about the research at our Department

The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy conducts cross-disciplinary, problem-oriented research to interpret and explain social and political phenomena and crises, the interaction between individuals and society, and to explore and solve key problems in philosophy.

In addition to basic scientific research, we use science to help build a more equal, safer, more tolerant and more open society.
