The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is a multidisciplinary and respected research university and a reliable asset investor. The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ can accept legacy donations for the benefit of scientific research and education. On the basis of Chapter 1, Section 2 of the Inheritance and Gift Tax Act, the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is not liable to inheritance or gift tax.
The testator can determine the purpose of the donation. The donor can direct their legacy to the University in general ("Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥") or to a research area close to their heart (e.g. "Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ social science research").
If the endowment is allocated to the university in general, the funds received will be added to the university's investment assets and the return on the funds will be used to strengthen the university's research in strategic priority areas.
If the donation is allocated to a specific field of research/education, the funds will be used directly for research/educational actions in that field.
In accepting a legacy donation, the University undertakes to comply as closely as possible with the donor's expressed wishes. In the case of support for science, a loose formulation of the purpose gives the best chance of impact (e.g. "for research in chemistry/health sciences/humanities at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥").
If the testator wishes, the University's experts are available to help with the wording of the will. legal@jyu.fi
