Research and Projects in JYU-Vuokatti

Applied research and technology development play a significant role in the Sports Technology Unit. Our students have the opportunity to participate in projects where they gain experience in research and development, either as a research internship or in the form of a thesis. Projects benefit from local, regional, national and international cooperation.

Research

Research into cross country skiing and sports technology is the spearhead of the unit, but basic research in sports biology also plays an important role. In Spring 2024 the Unit started a research also in ice hockey. JYU-Vuokatti draws on strong expertise in exercise biology, which also contributes to the applied "from science to practice" and "from science to results" research. Research activities will continue to be based on extensive project work and doctoral and master's level theses.

Research will be carried out in collaboration with national and international partners. Funding has been and will be sought from a variety of national sources (ERDF, OKM, Business Finland, foundations) as well as from EU and other international funding instruments in cooperation with network actors. The share of service activities, such as the sale of the Coachtech system, ski testing and direct commissioned surveys from companies, will be increased. In addition to commissioned surveys, the aim will continue to be to actively involve companies as self-financers in various projects.
