Ski service development project

Municipality of Sotkamo (NOTC Vuokatti-Ruka) and Ģֱ, Sports technology unit (JYU-Vuokatti) are conducting co-project during next two years (1.6.2023- 31.5 2025). Project aims to develop snow sports ski service.

Project description

Ski service is one of the most important factors effecting to final result in snow sports. Recently national teams own work especially on ski grindings have been highlighted. Advantage of Finnish ski service is the unique co-operation between snow sports service teams. This project aims to develop Finnish snow sports ski service, testing, co-operation between teams and education. In research point of view project confirms JYU-Vuokatti’s position as one of the leading snow sports research centers in the world. More broad goal is to support the success of Finnish snow sports internationally and highlight the role of Vuokatti area achieving it. To reach goals a development project is conducted in two parts: developing technological knowledge and development of education, these parts are divided to five work packages. In addition an investment project is conducted to acquire critical equipment’s to reach the project
goals.


As a result, Finnish snow sports service develops into new level enabling better results. As a more specific result following outcome is produced: “grind map” for cross-country skis in different situations, digital database for waxing’s, grindings, structures etc. A three-level education entirety to ski service. Slope sports gain advantage from “small-ski” service knowledge and co-operation benefit both parties. JYU-Vuokatti’s measurement technology knowledge increases supporting the strategy to be world leading snow sport research center in the world in 2030. Project is conducted as joint project where Sotkamo municipality is main contractor and Ģֱ subcontractor.
