Sustainable use of the natural resources

The focus area of the sustainable use of natural resources explores the impact of human activities on nature, the sustainable use of natural resources and the development of ways to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of human activities.

The sustainable use of natural resources is based on a simultaneous understanding of the functioning of biological communities and ecosystems, but also of the changes that occur in them as a result of human activity, and on finding sustainable solutions for the use of natural resources and for the conservation of biodiversity. The activities will combine research on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems with the conservation and use of water and river basin resources.

Central Finland and our land of thousands of lakes provide an excellent framework for research, especially in aquatic ecosystems. Our research covers the ecology and biology of aquatic animals, fish economics, stock monitoring and its development in fish farms, as well as chemical .

The goal of research of environmental science is to find sustainable solutions for the use of raw materials and natural resources, the production of goods and energy. Economy is also important because it is preserving nature and biological diversity.
