JYU.Well Research Themes

Multidisciplinary and impactful research on wellbeing and health

At the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, human wellbeing is thoroughly studied by combining perspectives and methods from various disciplines. Physical, mental and social wellbeing is examined in different contexts and environments, including the home, schools, care services, working life, leisure activities, sport, art and culture. JYU.Well creates multidisciplinary opportunities for academic debate and collaboration between researchers representing different fields of knowledge as well as between researchers and social actors.

All the faculties operating at the university conduct research and provide a variety of courses and modules on wellbeing and health.  The university's expertise on wellbeing spans the entire human life cycle from early childhood to old age and covers a range of contexts from family life to schools and working life. Additionally, research has also been conducted on the different practices of care, nursing, rehabilitation and therapy.  Current areas of interest include social sustainability, ageing and care, wellbeing at work, the impact of physical activity on health and wellbeing, health and wellbeing technologies, health economics, multidisciplinary rehabilitation and art therapies as well as cultural and historical perspectives on health and wellbeing.

There are numerous multidisciplinary wellbeing research spearheads operating at the university. In addition to our central research themes, we are also strengthening the university's research profile through the JYU.Well profiling area (2023-2028).
