Inform the International Staff Services and the assistant of your unit about the date you leave. Remember to return your work keys, access cards and equipment/items issued to you to perform your job. Please note that a possible holiday bonus is usually paid on the 15th of the following month for expiring fixed-term employment contracts, unless a new contract has been concluded by the material cut-off date for the pay period in question. I.e. If your fixed-term employment ends on 31.12., the possible holiday bonus will usually be paid on 15.01. Hence, a tax card is needed for until one month after your employment contract ends.

If you are leaving Finland or moving to another place in Jyväskylä or in Finland, remember to terminate your tenancy agreement according to the term of notice. Often a term of notice is one full calendar month but check it from your tenancy agreement.

Tenancy agreements are usually in force either until further notice or for a fixed period. If the agreement has been made until further notice, it must be terminated in writing according to the term of notice, e.g. one calendar month before moving out. The period of notice is counted from the last day of the month when the notice was given. Example: If the term of notice is one month and you give notice to end your tenancy agreement on 15 June, your tenancy agreement ends on 30 August, and you must pay rent until then.

You should also make arrangements with your landlord for checking your apartment, returning your keys and returning the paid deposit to you.

Remember to end the contracts for water, electricity, the Internet, etc., and settle all invoices before leaving.

If you have a Kela card and you are leaving Finland, report your move to Kela online in . If you can’t log in or don’t speak the Finnish, you can also use the English paper form . Fill in the form electronically, print and sign it and send it by regular mail to the address mentioned in the form.

If you are leaving Finland, order a pension record from your pension provider before you leave. For more information, see the following pages:

If you are leaving Finland, be in touch with your bank and see the procedure they have for leaving the country. Most banks do not let you have a Finnish bank account if you do not live in Finland.

If you are leaving Finland, remember to (JYU login required) if you close your Finnish bank account before the payment of your last salary.

If you are leaving Finland or Jyväskylä, remember to inform the childcare and schools that you are moving. Contact your children’s childcare and/or schools for school-specific information on how it is done.

If you are leaving Finland or Jyväskylä, remember to cancel all memberships to clubs and other activities.
