Pre-arrival process

Here you will find a process of pre-arrival arrangements to Finland. This describes the actions that need to be done before you can start your work or visit in Finland.

Immigration formalities

Immigration formalities vary depending on your citizenship.

If you are a citizen of a country that is not a member state of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you will usually need a residence permit to enter Finland. The process takes a couple of months, so start taking the necessary actions as early as possible.

Citizens of EU/EEA-countries and Switzerland don't need a residence permit to arrive and start working in Finland. However, they must register their stay in Finland after they have arrived. It's recommended to book these appointments beforehand, so that you can have them as soon as possible after your arrival in Finland.
