FemInnovation - Female physiology, sports, and innovations
Our research group focuses on the physiology of female athletes (recreational and elite). We investigate how endogenous and exogenous sex hormones (menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptive use, ovulatory disturbances) influence performance and training adaptations and the effects of low energy availability and multistress environments on menstrual health. Additional projects involve themes including: environmental physiology, pregnancy/motherhood, sports/wellness technology, and coaching (the female athlete and as a female). Our goal is to generate knowledge that can be utilized to promote performance, health, and well-being of female athletes and coaches across the lifespan.

Research group description
We are interested in investigating and understanding the influence of endogenous and exogenous hormones/hormonal profiles on health and performance in women of reproductive age. We are committed to promoting female athlete health and wellness via interdisciplinary research. Our goal is to utilize the latest scientific findings and methods in our research and to translate our findings into innovative practice both in the lab and on the field.
Through international and local collaboration, we will advance female athlete research. The results of our research inform athletes, coaches, and multidisciplinary teams.
