The Ģֱ (JYU) serves as one of the Finnish focal points in the international network of the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Lifestyles, hosted by Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. As part of this global partnership, JYU contributes to strengthening educational innovation for sustainability and social transformation through research, teacher education, curriculum development, and collaboration with communities.

Together, we collaborate to support the mission of the UNESCO Chair: to promote sustainable lifestyles by strengthening education for sustainable development (ESD), building capacity, co-creating innovative pedagogies, and supporting multi-stakeholder partnerships locally and internationally.
What We Do
As part of the Chair’s international Institutional Partner Network, the JYU team contributes to:
- Innovative Learning Environments – promoting STEAM education, sustainability, and planetary wellbeing education through active and interdisciplinary approaches
- Teacher Education and Curriculum Development – supporting sustainability competences across all levels of teacher education
- Community Engagement and Capacity Building – working with schools, municipalities, and civil society to co-create local sustainability strategies
- Research and Policy Contributions – advancing transdisciplinary research and informing educational policy related to sustainable development
JYU also shares research and practice through the UNESCO Chair’s events, webinars, and toolkit development, and actively participates in collaborative projects and grant applications with other partners in the Chair network.
