
Terhi Nokkala
Biography
I work as a Research professor at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER), Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. My research focuses on higher education as a societal phenomenon. At the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, I am currently a member of FIER board and the board of the doctoral programme in education. I am one of the coordinating editors of a leading journal in my field, .
Prior to joining JYU in 2010, I worked at the Universities of Tampere and Surrey and as a visiting researcher at the University of Twente, University of Bristol and the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna.
Research interests
My research focuses on the higher education policy, universities as organisations, as well as questions of academic work and careers, with a specific interest in comparative methodology and discourse analysis. Recently I have also addressed questions of ecological and social sustainability in education.
Highly educated labour force and the knowledge produced by higher education institutions are key success factors for contemporary knowledge societies. Higher education research enhances the self-understanding of the academic community. It offers relevant knowledge for higher education institutions and policy makers about the functioning of higher education in an international context.
