Project description

This study investigates the effect of listening to self-selected music on physiologically measured and personally experienced relaxation and mood in young adults. The purpose of the study is to increase scientific understanding of the role of music as a tool for relaxation and stress relief, and to increase awareness of the use of music as a means of emotion regulation. For the purpose of the study, heart rate variability and galvanic skin response are measured from 18 to 30-year-old participants during two relaxation sessions. Short surveys are conducted at different stages throughout the study. Both relaxation sessions are preceded by a 5-minute stress test containing mathematical tasks to slightly increase the participant's state of alertness and cognitive load before relaxation. In the relaxation sessions, participants listen to self-selected music lists as well as neutral, non-musical content. The study will be carried out during the years 2023–2025.

The study is no longer looking for participants.
