Project description

The workshop series ”Language at work: Migrants and Nordic workplaces” is organized in collaboration between Ģֱ (Finland),  University of Copenhagen (Denmark), Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norway) and Stockholm University (Sweden) in 2022–2023. The workshops are funded by .

The three exploratory workshops bring together researchers and stakeholders working on current questions related to second language (L2) competences of migrants working or wishing to work in Nordic countries. In all these countries there is an increasing pressure to develop working-life oriented language education for both newly arrived and settled migrants, and several development and research projects are already in progress, e.g. on language policies in recruitment, language education in vocational or integration training, L2 mentoring practices, multilingual workplace interaction and professional language assessment. Through merging the knowledge of Nordic researchers and practitioners in this field, a deeper and more general understanding of these theoretically and pedagogically complex issues can be reached. A general objective of the cooperation is to develop further scientifically and critically grounded knowledge on language learning and valid assessment of language competencies for different types of work in the Nordic workplaces.
