Facilities and equipment in the library building

The library provides working space for both independent study and group work. In the Digital archive, you can e.g. access the Finnish Radio and TV Archive and read digital newspapers. We have workstations also for customers outside the university.

Workspaces and network

    • Students can reserve workspaces for studying via online reservation system. The calendar can be accessed through the Navi app via browser or MyJYU app. See more instructions.
  • Quiet reading rooms are located on the second and third floor.
  • JYU wireless network
  • Cyrillic (Russian) keyboard can be borrowed for library use at the service desk of the library.

Users from outside of JYU should contact University Services to reserve facilities.

Digital archive

Digital archive is located in the lower basement floor of ³¢Ã¤³ó»å±ð (BP 15). There are two workstations with access to four databases:

  • Finnish Web Archive
  • Digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi - the collection of newspapers, magazines, ephemera, books, maps, card indices and sheet music digitised by the National Library
  • Varia – the collection of electronic legal deposit copies
  • Finnish Radio and TV Archive

You can read, view and listen to the programs, but not save files. There are no Office programs or internet browsing on the workstations.

JYX workstation

  • Located in the lower basement floor of ³¢Ã¤³ó»å±ð (BP 15)
  • At the JYX workstation, you have access to restricted material from the . You can also print the material.
    • JYU students and staff can print material with their university user account.
    • Users from outside the university can contact the Library’s Service Point. Printouts cost €0.10 per page.

If you are looking for master’s theses with restricted use in JYX, you can also ask for them by email jyx@jyu.fi.

Microfilm scanner

  • Located in the lower basement floor of ³¢Ã¤³ó»å±ð (BP 15)
  • Collection of Finnish microfilmed newspapers in the Collection Centre in Kanavuori
    • You can request microfilm for use in ³¢Ã¤³ó»å±ð.

Workstations not requiring a user account

There are four workstations that do not require a user account for the university network. Customers outside the university can use the workstations and access most of the electronic resources acquired by the Library. The workstations are located in the upper basement floor near Library's service point.

Pets in ³¢Ã¤³ó»å±ð

Pets are not allowed in the building. Only assistance dogs are allowed.
