Free Finnish language training programme provides immigrants with tools for work and study – welcome to our info session on 9 April 2025!

The nine-month training programme combines the study of academic skills, Finnish language and the content of the student’s own field, while helping participants to integrate into the Finnish education system and society.
The full-time training is organised as contact teaching at the Ģֱ. The Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication (Movi) is in charge of the training.
Training is intended for immigrants with a higher education background
The training is intended for immigrants who have pursued higher education studies or are qualified for them. People participating in the training must therefore have either a previous higher education degree or a degree corresponding to the matriculation examination.
“The training is ideal for those who wish to continue or supplement their studies, or find employment in their field, but whose Finnish language skills are not yet sufficient,” says the coordinator of the training Tuija Lehtonen. “The training focuses on ensuring that all learned skills support both employment and academic studies.”
The application period for the next training begins soon
JYU.INTEGRA supports immigrants in their efforts to pursue university studies or jobs in their field in Finland that match their level of education. The training can also serve as so-called voluntary integration training, during which the student may receive unemployment benefits.
“The student’s goals and prior knowledge act as the starting point for the training,” Lehtonen says. “This approach is used in the study of both Finnish and English. For example, the variety of language skills is often quite wide, so all this is utilised in the language teaching. It is especially important for students to also be able to take courses in their own field whose content and study methods are integrated into the teaching.”
The training is now being organised for the sixth time, and about hundred students have attended it so far. The progress of students who have participated in the training is monitored systematically for a couple of years after the training ends, and the majority of those who completed the training have been able to enter their desired field of study or found a job in the year following the training. Feedback from students has been very positive.
The application round for the next JYU.INTEGRA training will be open from Wednesday 16 April 2025 through Sunday 4 May 2025. The training will start on 11 August 2025 and end in early June 2026.
Come and hear more about the training programme on Wednesday 9 April 2025 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Tietoniekka, Library Lähde.
The event will be mainly in Finnish with English as an auxiliary language. Questions can also be asked in English.
