Belonging, crises and societal change

Research in this area focuses on different aspects of belonging, crises and societal change.

Belonging is a basic human need, shaken by change and crisis. Cultural belonging and its discontinuities are explored in a study that focuses on social polarisation phenomena such as hate speech and populism. The research will build an understanding of the experiences of belonging and exclusion and the affective mobilisation that also produces crises. Interdisciplinary projects will explore the attachment produced through art and narrative, the belonging or polarising dimensions of cultural products, and the enabling or disabling aspects of social media. The study of belonging, crises and social change will be strongly focused on contemporary cultural phenomena, analysed from a critical and intersectional perspective.
