First aid - call 112

In emergencies: Call 112. When the question is about a life-threatening situation, react quickly and immediately call the emergency number 112, where you will get help and instructions on what to do.
 

Situation requiring a visit to the emergency clinic: Always call first

If your condition is not threatening your life but still requires quick investigation and treatment, go to your own health centre during its opening hours. 

If your health centre is closed and you need urgent help, call (free of charge). Helpline evaluates if your condition requires urgent treatment and also gives you further instructions. The joint emergency services of the Hospital Nova (Hoitajantie 3, Jyväskylä) only treats patients, who due to illness or accident must be treated immediately on the same day and whose treatment cannot be postponed to the next day.  

Instructions for most common situations requiring first aid

Get familiar with the most important first aid instructions of the Finnish Red Cross. You can practise first aid by yourself or on first aid courses. .

Operating instructions in case of emergencies

Security is the responsibility of the whole University community. With our daily choices and actions, each student and employee can influence the security of our open – but also vulnerable – community. It is important that you pay attention to security and correct or report any issues you notice. Read the instructions on how to report an incident and how to respond to accidents and incidents.

In a crisis? In need of emergency support?

If you feel you need urgent support, here are some options:

  • To get help in crises related to life situations and trauma contact the  for 24/7 support (see more information below).
  • International degree students in JYU's Master's degree programmes: For treatment assessments and appointments, you can contact the Finnish Student Health Services FSHS.
  • If FSHS is closed: During business days the primary place to contact is your . Open from Monday to Thursday between 8.00 and 16.00, on Fridays between 9.00 and 16.00.
  • In the evenings and at weekends contact the joint emergency duty service of . Call the medical helpline first: 116 117.
  •  (for exchange students). Municipalities provide social and healthcare services for all age groups. In Jyväskylä, these services are administered by the Centre for Social and Health Services.

The Crisis Centre Mobile

 helps in difficult life situations and traumatic crises. For example, when

  • you have experienced a shocking situation
  • you feel alone with your problems
  • you feel that you are stuck in a difficult life situation
  • you wish to talk to a professional helper

Social and Crisis Emergency Services

Social and Crisis Emergency Services answer to immediate need for help 24/7. They organise urgent social work assessments and immediate measures for people of all ages. Anyone can contact the service when needing help or noticing someone else needing urgent help. Social and Crisis Emergency Services are free of charge. For contacts and more information, see .

University chaplain

The services of the university chaplain are available for all students. You can reach the chaplain by email or WhatsApp, or anytime on the campus. With the University chaplain, you can discuss any matter that may cause you distress. The discussions are confidential and free of charge.

 is a national victim support centre that provides support and guidance for people who have been sexually assaulted or abused, as well as provide help for their families. Free crisis helpline: 0800 97899.

is a place for sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences.Chats will cover subjects surrounding issues that affect students' daily lives. 

Help with substance abuse

The city of Jyväskylä offers support with substance abuse issues through counselling and on-call services that include evaluations, treatment and assistance. You can contact your own Social and health station, or the on-call intoxicant service of the Jyväskylän Seudun Päihdepalvelusäätiö..
