Comprehensive security at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥
In the university community, everyone has the right to feel secure and to work and study in a safe environment. The University is also safe for visitors and others on campus.
By managing safety and security risks, we protect the University’s key values and assets – people, information, reputation, property and the environment – from dangers and threats. The management of safety and security also adds value to the University, the university community and its partners by creating stability, ensuring people’s health and wellbeing and generating public confidence.
The University’s operating environment is constantly changing, influenced by local, national and international developments. Security risks are assessed and monitored on an ongoing basis, while safety and security management aims at preventing accidents and incidents.
The University’s safety and security management is divided into the following areas:
- personal safety and security
- campus security (safety and security in premises [1]and buildings),
- emergency safety
- operational and production safety
- environmental safety
- information security and cyber security
- occupational safety
- student safety
- security-related misconduct and non-conformity
- contingency planning and crisis management
As part of the security and information security activities of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, safety and security management supports the strategic and operational management of the University. Its activities and processes help the University to achieve its objectives, while operating safely, responsibly and ethically and managing risk.
The University trains the experts of the future, and safety is a key requirement in the professional world. The members of the JYU community understand what creates a safe working environment, report any issues they observe and work to make their environment a safer and more secure one. JYU’s safety culture serves as an example for our graduates.
Emergency Response Guide
Security is the responsibility of the whole University community. With our daily choices and actions, each student and employee can influence the security of our open – but also vulnerable – community. It is important that you pay attention to security and correct or report any issues you notice. Security is caring.
Reporting an emergency
When you notice an emergency situation, you should always first call 112, the phone number of the emergency response centre. Only after this should you inform other relevant bodies (e.g. the University’s security manager) about what you have seen.
When calling the emergency number 112:
- Answer their questions.
- Follow their instructions.
- Do not end the call before they tell you to do so.
Find out the detailed address of your workplace and write it down alongside these instructions. In addition, think about how you would guide emergency services personnel to the site by the quickest route.
