Student card and student benefits
Joining the Student Union of the Ģֱ (JYY) and having a student card entitles you to a wide range of services and benefits. Student card issued by the Student Union is an official way to prove that you are a student and a member of the Student Union.
Joining the Student Union and obtaining a student card is optional for exchange and doctoral students but mandatory for bachelor's and master's degree students. Visiting student trainees cannot join the Student Union or get a student card.
With a valid student card issued by the Student Union, you are entitled to, for example, student-priced meals in student cafeterias, discounts on public transport and to various other discounts offered by shops, businesses, and service providers in Jyväskylä and nationwide. Several subject associations have also negotiated student discounts for their members holding a valid student card.

Obtaining your student card
You can download a digital student card or order a plastic one after you have joined the Student Union and once your study period at JYU has begun.
Please note that if you have paid the Student Union membership fee only a couple of days before you would like to get your validating sticker for the plastic student card, you should bring proof of your payment with you, as payments do not necessarily show immediately in the student register.
The student benefits (on the card or on the app) will only activate once you have completed the steps, your study period at the university has begun and Slice has activated your account, which takes around two days after your study right has become active.
