You can register for attendance after accepting your study place. Bachelor's and master's degree students who are liable to pay tuition fees may register for attendance only after paying the tuition fee.

As a bachelor's or master's degree student, you are required to join the Student Union of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ and pay the student union membership for the term(s) for which you are registering as attending. There are two alternative ways to complete the registration. Please choose the option below that applies to you. If you need help with the registration, please contact the Student Service Desk on . 

• If you have access to Finnish online banking services with an identification feature, or you use MobilePay or one of the credit cards we accept, you can take care of the registration and student union fee payment in the OILI service (privacy notice regarding OILI) during the registration period. You can find a link to OILI on My Studyinfo after you have accepted your study place.
• If you do not have access to the abovementioned services, please take the following steps to register for attendance:
  1. Pay the student union membership fee. See the payment instructions below in the section called Student union membership fee.
  2. Fill in the form on HelpJYU. Add a receipt of the student union payment as an attachment to the form.
  3. You will be notified once your registration has been completed.

  1. Fill in the form on HelpJYU. 
  2. The student union membership fee is optional for doctoral students. If you wish to join the student union, please pay the membership fee according to the instructions for doctoral students and add the receipt of the payment as an attachment to the form on HelpJYU.
  3. You will be notified once your registration has been completed.

Conditionally admitted and tuition fee liable students: please do not register for attendance before your officially certified educational documents have been approved and/or you have paid the tuition fee!

Bachelor's and master's students: If you cannot register for attendance using OILI, please make the student union membership fee payment as a bank transfer using the following information:

Please note that the payment should be made without charges to the beneficiary. We do not accept credit cards, checks or money orders. 

Afterwards, please send us a receipt of the payment on . Make sure that your name is visible on the receipt if someone else has completed the payment for you. Your registration will not be complete before you have sent the receipt to us. 

NB: The receipt is not required if you made the payment through OILI.

Doctoral students: The student union membership fee is optional for doctoral students. If you wish to join the student union, please see the payment instructions in the instructions for doctoral students.

According to the Universities Act, a student may register for non-attendance during the first year of studies for the following reasons only:

• The student is carrying out military or non-military service according to the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service (194/1995).
• The student requires a leave of absence from studies due to the birth or adoption of a child.
• The student is unable to start the studies due to personal illness, injury or disability.

Instructions for registering for non-attendance:

1. Contact the Student Service Desk on HelpJYU by filling in the form. Choose First year bachelor's, master's or doctoral student as the study right type and let us know, which terms (autumn term 1.8.-31.12., spring term 1.1.-31.7.) you would like to register for non-attendance. Please also fill in the degree programme which you have been admitted to.
2. If you register for non-attendance for the whole academic year, you do not have to pay the student union membership fee. If you are a bachelor's or master's student and you register for non-attendance only for one term, you need to pay the membership fee for the other term, for which you register for attendance. The membership fee is optional for doctoral students. You can find the payment instructions in the section above called Student union membership fee. Add the receipt of the payment as an attachment to the form on HelpJYU.
3. Please do not send the document related to the statutory reason via HelpJYU! We will send you instructions on how to submit the document by confidential email after you have contacted us.
4. Once your document has been received, you will be notified that the statutory absence has been registered for the terms in question.

Even if the legal grounds for absence apply to one term only (e.g., military service or maternity leave beginning in January), you may register for non-attendance for the entire academic year. Similarly, you can change your registration status for the spring term from attendance to non-attendance within the registration period (by 31 December), if there is a statutory reason for the absence.

If you are liable to pay a tuition fee and you register for non-attendance for only one term, you must pay the tuition fee for the other term. You can register for attendance only after paying the tuition fee for the term in question. Tuition fees are not charged for terms during which you are registered for non-attendance.

NB: This section does not apply to doctoral students.

In master’s programmes at JYU, the extent of the degree completion time is 2 + 2 years. This means that students are expected to graduate within two years, but if graduation is delayed, the study right continues for four years altogether without the student needing to apply for an extension of their degree completion time.

Absences caused by military or non-military service in accordance with the Conscription Act, the Non-Military Service Act, the Act on Women’s Voluntary Military Service, or maternal, paternal or parental leave are not counted into the completion time of the degree. However, absence during the first year because of an illness or injury is included in the degree completion time.

After the first academic year of the study right, bachelor's and master’s students can register for non-attendance without a specific reason. During their study right, students can register for non-attendance for two academic terms without this affecting their degree completion time. In addition, students can register for non-attendance because of military service or parental leave at any point during their studies without this affecting their degree completion time.

If the student does not register at all (for attendance or non-attendance), the degree completion time decreases during the period that the student is not registered.

NB: This section does not apply to doctoral students.

You must pay the student healthcare fee if you are studying for a higher education degree and have registered as attending for the current term. The healthcare fee covers medical care and mental health services as well as oral health services from the . You must pay the fee even if you use occupational or other health services instead of the FSHS.

You are not billed for the student healthcare fee but must make sure to pay it on OmaKela for each academic term. .
