University Board
The Rector serves as the presenter of matters that come before the University Board and the general counsel as the secretary. The Finance and Service Director and the preparatory official of the issue being discussed also participate in the meetings.

Director General Antti Koivula
Professor Antti Koivula is Director General at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. He also is a member of the advisory board of State Treasury, the board of Hansel Oy and the executive committee of the Association for Finnish Work. He completed his doctorate on knowledge commercialisation at the occupational psychology laboratory of the Helsinki University of Technology in 1998, where he also worked as a researcher in 1990–1998. After that he worked for Nokia in different strategic product development and change and product management duties until 2011. Koivula started at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in 2012. Currently his main interests include especially the transition and digitalisation of work, the development of welfare society and Finnish working life, and strategic management. His societal focus is on responding to the transition of work by through research and working ability.

Vice President Hanna Maula
Hanna Maula (DSc (Econ.) in management studies, Aalto University, 2018, Lic.Phil in organizational communication & public relations, Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, 2004) is Vice President, Communications & Brand at UPM. She has wide experience in communications and marketing as well as research both in Finland and internationally. She has also worked as a communications director for Aalto University and Neste Corporation. Since 2019, Maula has been a board member of the Strategic Management Society of Finland, and she is also a member of the advisory board of Helsinki Design Week.

Professor Marja Makarow
PhD Marja Makarow is President of Academia Europaea (AE), the Pan-European Academy of Sciences Humanities and Letters, a board member of the European Innovation Council (EIC), and a professor emerita of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Helsinki. She is a former vice rector for research at the University of Helsinki, a chief executive of the European Science Foundation ESF in Strasbourg, a vice-president for research at the Academy of Finland and a director of Biocenter Finland. She has served on the boards of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), the Technology Academy Finland (TAF), which awards the Millennium Technology Prize, and several universities.
Marja Makarow has assessed the quality of research in several European universities, the effectiveness of national R&D&I systems, and the fundability of individual research projects, for example, as a panel chair of the European Research Council (ERC). She has participated in the development and implementation of research strategy in the EU’s European Research Area system, and in the Finnish Prime Minister’s Research and Innovation Council.

Professor Pekka Koskela
Pekka Koskela became an associate professor of mathematics in 1995 and a professor in 1998. His field of research is mathematical analysis. In 2010–2014 he worked as an academy professor. Professor Koskela has served as a head of department and a vice dean at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. He was a member of the University Collegium in 2010–2013 and 2014–2017.

Professor Terhi-Anna Wilska
Terhi-Anna Wilska has worked as a professor of sociology at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ from 2009. She completed her doctoral degree in sociology at the University of Lancaster (UK) in 1999 and has worked, for example, as a professor of economic sociology at the Turku School of Economics and as a researcher at the National Consumer Research Center, the Finnish Youth Research Network and the Family Federation of Finland. Themes of her research projects include consumption, digitalisation from the viewpoint of young and older people, sustainability, and the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on digital behaviour and well-being.

Senior Lecturer Olli-Pekka Moisio
Olli-Pekka Moisio is a senior lecturer of philosophy at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ and a docent at the University of Tampere. He has long experience in the fields of social sciences, education, teacher training and humanities. His central research topics are related to twentieth century European philosophy and the philosophy of adult education. For years, Moisio has served as a pedagogical head of the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, a board member of the Association of Researchers and Teachers of Jyväskylä (Jytte), a deputy labour union representative, and a member of the Science Council, the Education Council and the University Collegium.

Student Petri Laaksonen
Petri Laaksonen is a bachelor’s and master’s degree student in sports science and his minor subject is human resource management. He was a member of the faculty council at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences in 2019–2023. He has also served in the Board of Executives of the Student Union as a member responsible for associations, corporate cooperation and municipal advocacy in 2020, and as the chair of the Board in 2021.
Laaksonen is also a member of the City Council of Jyväskylä, the chairperson of the Jyväskylä Region Public Transport Committee, a member of the Audit Committee of the City of Jyväskylä and a representative of the Regional Council of Central Finland. He served as a vice member of the Education Committee in 2021–2023 and as a member of the board of JAMK University of Applied Sciences in 2023.
