University's computers
Advice on how to log-in and lock the computers.
General rules
- Log in to the computers with your own credentials. After logging out, clear the cache of the web browser
- Store all the necessary information on the network disk drive or your home index. This way, the university takes care of the backups.
- Make regular saves to your files you are processing (Ctrl + S in most Windows-based programs) to prevent the loss of changes
Locking
- Remember to lock out your computer every time you leave your work station, even if it is for a short while. This prevents unauthorized access to
- the system. Remember to take other into consideration too and not leave the computer reserved for longer periods of time.
- Windows work station can be locked by pressing either CTRL + ALT + DEL and choosing “Lock” or by pressing Windows-key and L
- Mac’s have an automated lock-out system, check out the separate guide on how to adjust the delay
- Red Hat Linux work stations can be locked by pressing the lock picture that resides in the upper right corner behind a menu bar
