Tips on how to protect your computer.

Protecting your own computer can prevent harmful surprises from occurring. These might include getting a computer virus, your hard drive might break down or your computer might be stolen. These steps help you to be more prepared.

1. Your computer should always be equipped with a firewall and an anti-virus program. The default programs should work fine, and there are multiple options on the internet to choose from.

2. Keep your computer and programs up-to-date. Older versions might have vulnerabilities, which are often employed by hackers to gain access to your computer.

3. Install only those programs you need. Unnecessary programs take up space and, if you do not update them, might pose a security risk.

4. Use the admin account only when necessary, create a separate account for your daily use.

5. Make backups of your information.

6. When deleting older files from a hard drive or other memory device, make sure that the files are truly gone by overwriting the files or destroying the device itself.
