Doctoral Programme of the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies, autumn 2025
Education description
Research at the Department of Music, Art and Culture relates to the impacts and meanings of music art and culture, as part of contemporary trends in society, such as digitalization, polarization and increasing cultural diversity. Music, art and culture are approached as human experience and behavior, from learning to therapy, daily wellbeing, belonging, aesthetics, and politics. The research addresses for instance experiences, emotions, signifying processes, cognition, embodiment, interaction, environments, and historical processes.
Research at the Department is fundamentally multidisciplinary: approaches vary from critical cultural studies to experimental designs, applying methods from humanities, psychology, and natural sciences.
Doctoral studies coach the students orienting studies, subject-centered and multidisciplinary doctoral seminars, advanced courses in one’s major subject, studies in theories of science, research methods, work-life orientation, as well as through supporting researcher mobility.
