I work as a Consultant for IBM Global Business Services. The purpose of my job is to help client company business areas become more efficient and better integrated with each other. I enjoy consulting work because it is highly varied and constantly challenges me to learn new things and pick up new skills. Additionally, I find the international setting exciting and rewarding.
The IBE programme was a good fit for me. I was pleased with how it covered so many business aspects and how the entrepreneurial attitude of the staff made it all feel dynamic and fun. For instance, there were always interesting guest lecturers coming up. I never felt being stuck with my studies. I also very much enjoyed Jyväskylä as a city to study in.
It wasn’t clear to me at the beginning of my studies that I would later pursue career in consulting. I just wanted to combine technology and business, and work hard. Then consulting was where I ended at. In hindsight, IBE was an ideal springboard to consulting. Based on the sheer amount of case studies and presentations done, I can now rest assured that I will not suck when I need to come up with a high level solution to a business problem and then present it in English!
