Geometry and Analysis

A major strength of mathematics research is analysis, and it has a long tradition in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Several research groups operate in the area of strength. The researchers studies a wide range of topics, including Analysis on Metric Spaces, Geometric Measure Theory, Partial Differential Equations, Calculus of Variations, Geometric Analysis and Inverse Problems. The research subjects of the differents groups partially overlap, and researchers of different groups have many joint publications.

The groups in the area of strength participate in two Finnish Centre of Excellence and one Flagships of the Academy of Finland.

The Finnish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems (2018-2025)

The Centre of Excellence in Randomness and Structures (2022-2029)

The Flagship of Advanced Mathematics for Sensing, Imaging and Modelling

Many group members are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and Academy of Finland grants.
