Research group description

We have a strong desire to make the world a better place through technology-enhanced learning (TEL). For us, TEL is not just about equipment to support learning, since the increasing technologisation of society is also changing the needs for learning. We see that the ability to operate in technological environments has become, above all, an issue of social equity. Therefore, we explore, in particular, what the increasingly technological society means for learning and interaction in various contexts and also how technology can be harnessed to enhance learning of various new skills and competences.

Our studies focus, for example, on computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), problem-solving in technology-rich environments, teacher-student interaction in authentic TEL settings and workplace learning. We are part of the Ģֱ (JYU), which is ranked among the top 3% of universities in educational sciences in the world. We believe in the power of collaboration, and therefore, most of our studies are conducted together with top-level researchers from all over the world and/or collaborators from authentic learning contexts.

To achieve our goals, we apply a variety of methods from quantitative analysis of large-scale assessment data to qualitative case studies and theoretical conceptualisations. Additionally, we are interested in finding novel methods to investigate learning and interaction in TEL. In short, our aim is to develop a better understanding of the present state of the art and to design future TEL innovations.
