Project description

In this project we will organize a series of three workshops which will bring together a network of Nordic signed language (SL) researchers, who all work with multimodal SL corpora using a cognitive-functional linguistic approach. The workshops will develop empirical corpus methods for SLs and contribute to the planning of a corpus-exploiting international research project that will focus on similarities and differences between Swedish, Finnish, Finland-Swedish and Norwegian SL. The first workshop focuses on metadata and on research questions and will take place at Stockholm in June 2022. The second workshop focuses on annotation and on theoretical background and will take place at Jyväskylä in early 2023. The final workshop focuses on statistics and on research plan and will take place at Trondheim in summer 2023. All workshops include collaboration between junior and senior researchers, as well as between academia and local SL communities. More information about the workshops and the network can be found below. The project is funded by the NOS-HS/Academy of Finland/NordForsk.
