The “MultiLED” project opening seminar took place in Aalto University on 13th November 2023. One of the experts invited to the seminar was Dr. Pamela Woolner from School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences, Newcastle University, UK. The title of her presentation was ‘ New school spaces for 21st century education: what does the research evidence suggest for design and use?’. The second invited expert was Reino Tapaninen, M.Arch., Architect SAFA, from Finland, who presented ‘Learning environment supporting the joy of learning. Finnish perspective on the links between the curriculum, learning environment and the learning outcome’. Also visitors from Latin America and from the Uruguayan Embassy in Finland attended the seminar. This led to very interesting discussions on the importance of participatory design processes in different contexts.

Furthermore, on the 21st November 2023, as a part of the MultiLED project, one of the collaborators from Universidad ORT Uruguay, Dr Paula Cardellino, lectured in Aalto University as part of the Master Course. The presentation was ‘Participatory Approaches to Designing educational spaces in Uruguay’. During her stay in Finland, Dr. Cardellino also visited some Finnish schools. This was a great opportunity to experience first hand the Finnish education and the importance of the physical environment in its success.

MultiLED project activities were organised in parallel with the international “Implementing the Constructing Education framework” seminar, which took place at the city of Järvenpää on November 15th and 16th.
