STEAMCraft Project Gathers in Jyväskylä for Transnational Partner Meeting

The STEAMCraft project team convened in Jyväskylä, Finland, on March 25–26, 2025, for a productive Transnational Partner Meeting (TPM). Partners from across Europe gathered to review progress on project work packages and plan next steps for integrating Minecraft-based learning into sustainability and digital competence education.

Day 1: Project Overview and Work Package Progress

Hosted at JYU’s Takkahuone Aino cozy meeting space designed by architect Alvar Aalto, sessions included:

  • A project overview by Zoltán Márton from RCISD
  • WP1 Project Management update by András Merza (RCISD)
  • WP2 Pedagogical Framework progress summarized by Matias Mäki-Kuutti (JYU)
  • WP3 Mod Development for Minecraft, led by Sándor Kirchhof, presenting technical progress
  • WP4 Curriculum Development on sustainable energy solutions by Alessandro Martinelli (JKU)
  • WP5 Dissemination and Communication, led by RCISD
  • A session on administrative and financial matters, ensuring all partners are aligned on reporting and compliance

The evening included an optional Finnish sauna experience at Sataman Viilu, followed by a social dinner at the lakeside restaurant, strengthening formal and informal collaboration among participants as well as creating new international links between parties involved.

Day 2: Strategic Planning and Outreach

On Wednesday, partners reconvened for a morning session focused on:

  • Dissemination strategies for international outreach
  • Planning for future collaboration and engagement beyond the project lifecycle

Following lunch, the meeting concluded with a guided visit to the Digi & Game Center (DGC) at Matarankatu 2, showcasing a collaborative workspace for gaming industry and digital education.

The STEAMCraft project continues to advance its goal of equipping educators and students with tools to explore sustainability through creative digital platforms like Minecraft. The Jyväskylä TPM marked an important milestone in finalizing pedagogical models, curriculum design, and outreach strategies.
