“A wide variety of the academic fields at our university have once again achieved excellent positions in the highly regarded QS Ranking,” says Vice Rector Marja-Leena Laakso. “It’s great to see how broadly JYU’s various disciplines rank among the world’s top universities. The result demonstrates the strength of our multi-disciplinary university and the quality and impact of the research and training that it has undertaken in the national context. This is now the second year in a row when, in addition to our top field of educational sciences, various other fields continued to improve their ranking. I was also pleased to see a newcomer on the list this year. Last year, it was the well-established social science field, and now business and management are on the rise. As a university community we can be both pleased and proud of the results.”

The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates universities’ performance in 54 distinct disciplines. The ranking is based on the following indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper as well as the productivity and impact of the published work of scientists or scholars and international research cooperation. The weighing of indicators varies between disciplines. This year the ranking included 54 disciplines and 1,594 universities from all over the world.
