The Talent Boost programme is a cross-governmental operational programme on international recruitment and work- and education-based immigration coordinated by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy and the Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2021-2024, the Ģֱ implemented its own Talent Boost service promise Developing the recruitment and integration of international talent in five separate sub-projects : Talent Boost - A Better JYU for International Talents | Ģֱ

Movi, the Centre for Multilingual Academic Communication, was actively involved in the implementation of the Ģֱ's service promise, in particular in three sub-projects whose objectives were linked to Movi's activities and expertise:

- Sub-project 2: Developing the working life knowledge, skills, and competencies of the international degree students in JYU

-Sub-project :3 Developing education and career paths for highly educated and university-eligible migrants

- Sub-project 4:  Developing services for JYU international staff

Sub-project 2: Developing the working life knowledge, skills, and competencies of the international degree students in JYU

Movi outlined and built a JYU career path for international degree students together with the JYU Career Services. The aim of the pathway is to ensure that students have opportunities to develop their work life skills and competences and build work life connections during their studies. This is done by integrating language and communication studies, working life related studies, studies in the student's major field of study and other studies supporting employment, career services and guidance into a timely, accessible and manageable pathway that allows students to plan their studies and develop their skills as they wish. The pathway also provides places and tips for networking and examples of different pathways for students, with an emphasis on different future plans.

Movi developed a new type of multidisciplinary and multilingual communication and language studies for English-taught and bilingual Master's programmes. The aim is to support the development of students' multilingual academic communication skills so that they can participate in professional activities in all the languages they need, both during their studies and after graduation. The studies also provide opportunities to build personal networks across programmes and faculties, as well as important contacts with working life.

JYU.INTEGRA piloted the mentoring model in cooperation with the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Central Finland, the City of Jyväskylä and JAMK University of Applied Sciences. In addition to JYU.INTEGRA, the Ģֱ was represented by the JYU Department of Language and Communication Studies. The model and its implementation were designed in cooperation and the first 7-month mentoring pilot was carried out at JYU.INTEGRA. The experience gained from the pilot was so positive that the model will also be introduced in future trainings, both in the Jyväskylä Info-Center's short training courses and at JAMK.

JYU.INTEGRA's activities support the development of the Ģֱ's educational offer and JYU.INTEGRA's pedagogical practices are used and applied in the design of communication and language studies in specific degree programmes, in the design of new degree programmes and in the design of new applicant pathways.

Sub-project 4:  Developing services for JYU international staff

The aim of the sub-project, coordinated by ISS - International staff services, was to strengthen the services of international staff by promoting and supporting their smooth integration, integration and commitment to the university community, Jyväskylä and Finnish society. The aim was to increase the sense of belonging of international staff by facilitating interaction and encounters between international and domestic staff in formal and informal settings and contexts.

The participating faculties were offered a range of activities, such as guidance in learning and using Finnish, Finnish language courses linked to their own working environment, training on international and language-aware work communities, and support for organising community activities.

Based on feedback and ideas from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, which served as a pilot faculty for Mov's activities, the staff's own Language Buddy activity was  developed and launched to support international colleagues' learning and use of Finnish and their integration into the work community on a more personal level with their Finnish colleagues.

Feedback on the activities developed to facilitate the integration of international staff and increase the feeling of belonging received positive feedback from both those who participated in the activities and those who organised them. In addition to the Finnish language and the new work community, the participants took up camping, skiing, ice fishing, Finnish society and Finnish cuisine. Some of the activities also took place at the interface between work and leisure, and the different ways of working together will continue despite the end of the projects.

Since the end of the Talent Boost projects at the Ģֱ, some of the activities developed in Movi have become an established part of the university's activities and services. In this way, the aim is to provide opportunities for integration and expertise development for international talents who have arrived and are arriving in Finland, Jyväskylä and the Ģֱ.
