Students will submit their theses via Vasara and receive the assessment report via the system. The process allows supervisors to propose examiners and submit their assessment electronically, the dean or delegated personnel to make decisions on examiners and grading, and it eliminates many manual steps for the administrative staff.

The move to an electronic review process will standardize the process across the university. Additionally, real-time information on the status of the assessment of the thesis will be available and all necessary documents will be signed and archived electronically. The theses will be archived in the JYX digital repository as part of the Vasara process.

The first experiences with the system, its functionality and workflow have been promising. Students, examiners and deans have all given positive feedback.

Electronic examination process to be implemented in stages

The electronic examination process will first be implemented in the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics during the spring, followed by the Faculty of Information Technology. Subsequently, it will be gradually expanded to cover the entire university, one faculty or unit at a time. Faculty and departmental staff as well as students will be informed as the roll-out approaches.
