FORTHEM Alliance offers diverse possibilities for internationalisation

European Universities
Erasmus+ programme’s European Universities develop high-quality education, research and innovations and promote mobility. The university networks engage in close and ambitious cooperation. The goal of the initiative is to promote fact-based economy, employment and welfare in Europe.
The European Universities Initiative plays a key role in creating the European Education Area. In total, 64 European higher education networks with 560 higher education institutions and 35 countries were selected for this initiative.
Why has Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ joined the FORTHEM Alliance?
Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ was invited to join the network of multidisciplinary universities which was built based on the long-term collaboration between the unviersities of Burgundy, Mainz, Opole and Valencia. JYU was invited especially because of our strengths in applied linguistics, communication and teacher education. The European University Networks are "the place to be" nowadays for the higher education institutions, so we are committed to long-term collaboration. The alliance membership brings us new thinking in many ways; learning from the best practices of the other institutions and also to help others to develop their practices further. Our goal is to embed the international elements and networks to the basic activities of our university.
was launched among the first European Universities Networks in 2019, and entered the second funding period in 2022. The whole EUN-funding for the alliance for the current period (1.11.2022-31.10.2026) is 14,4 million euros, and the share for the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is about 2,3 million euros.
The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is coordinating the of the Alliance.
What kind of possibilities does the FORTHEM Alliance offer?
The partnership brings international cooperation to the everyday life of our students and staff members. It gives us possibilities to learn from the others, to understand different ways of working and different cultures, to share knowledge and to develop together. These skills are more and more important in our current environment both to individuals and organisations.
We offer our students and staff members a lot of low-threshold possibilities to enhance personal competences, to strenghten language skills, to learn for the intercultural collaboration. Important personal networks can be built, and these very often lead to future collaboration, for example to new projects and funding applications.
What kind of experiences do we have so far?
Especially popular have been the opportunities offfered to the students, for example or i. Students have been able to create joint projects and get funding for them. Also for the PhD students, new and more systematic internationalisation possibilites are offered through the .
When collaborating intensively with the partners, strong relationships are built and it becomes easier to start planning joint degree programmes and new projects for education and research. Many new initiatives and externally funded project have already been established. In addition, we have been able to facilitate new kinds of international collaboration possibilities for our local partners, for example schools.
