Ecologists meet in Jyväskylä 11.-14.3.2025

The Oikos-Finland 2025 conference will be held at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ on 11-14 March 2025. The conference is organized this year for the 6th time and will bring together current basic and applied research in ecology and evolutionary biology, highlighting that their interplay is key to the fundamental understanding and management of natural resources.
- This conference unites ecologists studying various organismal levels, from cells to populations, communities, and ecosystems, and it addresses both fundamental and applied research questions. The event offers a unique opportunity for researchers from diverse levels and perspectives to interact and share knowledge on the processes that generate ecological diversity and the impact of current human pressures on this diversity, says Academy Research Fellow Nerea Abrego from the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, and the main organiser of the conference.
Young researchers discuss with top world researchers
This year's Oikos-Finland theme is "Ecology and evolution: patterns, processes and applications". The program includes over 200 oral presentations, ca. 70 poster presentations and 6 international keynote speakers. In addition to the conference presentations, Oikos-Finland 2025 will include workshops on statistical modelling (HMSC), bioinformatics and scientific writing.
- The event is particularly important for young researchers where they can present their research results and network, says Abrego.
The keynote speakers are international experts in their field, Professor Janne Kotiaho (Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥), Professor Mathew Leibold (University of Florida), Dr. Anita Narwani (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), and Professor Marjo Saastamoinen (University of Helsinki). In addition, the speakers include winners of the Oikos Best Thesis Award: Dr. Chiara De Pasqual and Dr. Bertille Mohring.
International research in ecology at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥
Oikos-Finland 2025 takes place in the Seminaarinmäki campus at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. A record number of participants have registered for the conference, more than 400 researchers from Finland and abroad.
- We are honored to host the conference at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥. The research in this field at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences is at the highest international level. Our aim is to promote debate and raise awareness of the role of ecology and evolution in the well-being of people and the planet, says Abrego.
This year's conference is organised by the Predictive Community Ecology research group led by Otso Ovaskainen and Nerea Abrego from the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.
Oikos-Finland is organised every two years by different organisations, while every second year there is the Nordic Society Oikos conference for the Nordic countries.
