On Wednesday 23, researchers Tiina Mäkelä, Kristóf Fenyvesi and Orsolya Tuba from the Innovative Learning Environments research group at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research, Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ led an interactive multiplier event, which introduced the project.

The project led by Apor Vilmos Catholic College (Hungary) with partners from Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ (Finland), and the Spectrum Educational Center Foundation (Romania) aims at:

  • Improving education for young children through the use of a .
  • Facilitating the use of innovative teaching methods and accessible training resources for educators.
  • Addressing the cognitive and sensorimotor abilities of preschool and school-aged children.

In that workshop, ILE researchers launched a Finnish version of the Cognitive and Sensorimotor Profile Test. This tool supports teachers in recognising the learning needs and development levels of children, particularly those facing challenges due to learning difficulties or socio-cultural disadvantage. Unlike standardised tests, the tool does not provide a single score or diagnosis. Instead, it focuses on task sequences that assess a broad range of sub-skills and abilities, offering a detailed picture of a child's strengths and areas for support. The goal is to help educators develop individualised learning plans and apply teaching strategies that meet the unique needs of each child.

One key feature of the test is its accessibility: it can be used not only by psychologists and specialists but also by classroom teachers without specialised clinical training. It treats learners holistically, emphasising the importance of both cognitive and sensorimotor development in academic success.

The tool was also presented as a part of a conference given by ILE researchers Tiina Mäkelä and Hannu Moilanen on Thursday, 23.

As a part of the CogniTEaCH project, we are currently offering teacher professional development consisting of (1) Cognitive education and cognitive profiling, (1)Data-based teaching and learning, (3) Playful, experiential learning, methodological foundations, and digital games and (4) Everyday practices for cognitive and social-emotional learning.

We are also currently recruiting teachers in all project countries to try out the Cognitive and Sensorimotor Profile Test with their student groups.

The Cognitive and Sensorimotor Profile Test is already available in seven languages—English, Finnish, Hungarian, German, Romanian, Spanish, and Ukrainian—making it suitable for use in a wide range of educational contexts. Try the test:
