Cooperation with the Faculty of Information Technology

Information technology is everywhere. We are a multidisciplinary information technology specialist and one of the two largest university-level providers of IT education in Finland. The IT Faculty is engaged in active international cooperation both in the field of research and in teaching.

Cooperation tailored to the diverse needs of the business world

The Faculty of Information Technology has a wide range of IT expertise and we welcome cooperation with industry and business in the fields of research, development and student cooperation.

We offer companies opportunities for cooperation in areas such as student recruitment, commissioning theses, research, staff training and other development work.

Continuous learning

The Faculty of Information Technology is part of the FiTech Network University, which offers university courses free of charge. Course topics include AI and machine learning, 5G technology, cyber security, engineering and many other fields of technology.

JYU Open University also offers studies that are open to everyone and have no entrance requirements.

Recruit students from the IT faculty

We have about 2,800 degree students in the Faculty of Information Technology. Our students have wide-ranging and international expertise, and their education comprehensively combines the perspectives of technology, information, organisations, business, and people.

You can recruit our students to work as interns or on different projects and theses

Internship

You can offer our students internships and jobs all year round. We will forward the internship advertisement to the faculty students on your behalf.

The aim of an internship is to give students the opportunity to learn more in practical situations, get to know working life and make contacts with companies and public organisations.

Master’s thesis

Does your company have a study or practical topic that could be the subject of a master's thesis from information technology or engineering? We welcome proposals for thesis topics that involve collaboration with business and industry. Master’s theses are 30 credits, which corresponds to about six months of work (including writing).

It should be noted that the thesis itself is public, and therefore the work should not contain any non-public information.

Projects by students

Many of our degree programmes include project-based courses, which can be based on real business problems or RDI issues.

  • In a bachelor's degree programme, projects are usually around 5 credits (140 h) in scope.
  • In master's and engineering degree programmes, projects are at least 10 credits (280 h) in scope

The engineering studies also include multidisciplinary projects involving students from information and software engineering and other disciplines. If your company has a research or product development problem that requires a multidisciplinary approach, you can submit it for a multidisciplinary project.

Student cooperation and school visits

IT Crew – Our student ambassador team

The IT Crew is a student ambassador team that promotes what is exciting about information technology in schools, at events and on social media. The team is formed by students from different degree programmes in the Faculty of IT. Among other things, the IT Crew visits educational institutions to present the studies of our faculty, participates in various events, maintains the Faculty of IT's Instagram @jyu.it and produces the AamukahvIT podcast.

The IT Crew can be reached by email at itcrew@jyu.fi.

Events and visits

IT subject associations

Subject associations bring together students sharing the same study subject or field. The associations organise various events for their members, help promote their members’ shared interests, offer a variety of benefits, and provide opportunities for influence. The local subject associations, currently more than 30 altogether, operate under the Student Union of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥, JYY for short.

IT Alumni

Alumni are an important link between the world of work and the faculty.

Tapahtumat

All graduates of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ are its alumni. International exchange students, graduates, and international staff members of JYU are welcome to join the alumni community! With the help of the university, you can continue educating yourself, influence the development of the university and stay in contact with your friends.

By joining the alumni portal you can

  • hear about the latest university news and continuous learning opportunities
  • share the knowledge you have gained through your own work with members of the university community and apply the experiences of others.
  •  act as a mentor and/or guest lecturer
  • receive invitations to interesting and unique events

Degree Shepherd - support on the road to graduation

Degree Shepherd activity tries to reach and support the students of the Faculty of Information Technology whose studies have slowed down or halted, for example due to being busy with work. Our activities emphasise that no one needs to remain alone with their challenges and peer support is available. We can organise different kinds of targeted events and other support measures based on the students’ hopes.

Examples of possible support measures:

  • Aiding with a personal study plan technically or in terms of content
  • Supporting the planning and scheduling of studies
  • Organising guidance sessions for individuals and groups
  • Organising targeted seminar sessions
  • Organising events that support the writing process of thesis
  • Other peer support
