1. Registration and personal information
Where do I acquire my credentials?
Log in to Sisu with the same credentials you use for logging in to other JYU systems and university computers. If you do not have JYU credentials yet, follow these instructions. It will take 2-3 days after activation to have access to Sisu (if your study right has begun) and to have your study right registered in the system.
How do I change my e-mail in Sisu?
The primary e-mail comes from the OMA-service (). If this is correct but Sisu shows the wrong email address, make sure the right address is chosen as primary. If these fixes do not help within a couple of days, or OMA already shows the right email, contact Sisu support.
2. Study plan
I am a new student. Should I start planning my studies before tutoring?
New students can access Sisu 2-3 days after activating their JYU credentials given that their study right has begun. The base for a study plan can be created in advance, but tutors and will help you at the beginning of your studies.
Why do I have selections against the rules in my study plan?
If you are a degree student, you have used the free edit mode to create a custom structure for your plan, but have not applied for approval, or have changed the contents of the custom module after previously applying for approval. Make sure you read the instructions on how and when to use the free edit mode for planning custom modules, and how to apply for approval. If you need to plan a new structure, cancel your previous application or give up approval for you previous structure before making changes and applying again.
If you are an exchange student, you do not (normally) need to use the free edit mode to add courses into your study plan. The selection of courses available for exchange students can be found within the study plan structure by clicking the different subcategories in the study plan (the headline banner, not the arrow button in front of the headline). If you have planned or completed a course outside the normal selection for exchange students, refer to the degree students' instructions on how to use the free edit mode and apply for approval.

How can I get a completed course grade in Sisu?
- Make sure that your study plan corresponds to your study right. If there is a banner stating that "You do not have a study right that corresponds to your study plan or you have not registered for the current semester", create a new study plan, and choose the right education from the My educations -tab offered by default. Choose the year you started your studies as the curriculum period.
- Make sure that the right study plan is marked primary. This is done by clicking the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the Structure of studies page. Secondary study plans or primary study plans without a study right can be deleted if needed.
- Make sure that the course you are completing is found in this primary study plan that corresponds to your study right. If the course is missing from your study plan and you have registered for ongoing teaching, you can add the course to your study plan from the Add to the plan tab on the left side of the study plan structure page. Sisu prompts you to select a completion method during this process. You can also search and add the course to your course cart, and add it to your plan from the cart by using the same Add to the plan functionality, or open up the selection assistant by clicking a headline in your study plan structure that has a field to search for courses underneath it (e.g. elective studies).
- Make sure that the course's completion method is chosen. Click the course brochure (blue course code link in the study plan) and go to the Completion methods tab. Click "choose this method" on the desired completion method. If you cannot see anything on the Completion methods tab, select the newest version of the course by clicking the "Version:" menu underneath the name and code of the course unit, and activate this version to your study plan from the blue confirmation banner at the top of the page.
Why is my grade shown as partially completed?
All courses need to be added to a primary study plan that corresponds to your study right. Additionally a completion method has to be chosen to ensure the partially completed credits becoming fully completed. The completed course is compiled from partially completed credits automatically the following night after grading.
- Make sure that the right study plan is marked primary. If you have multiple study plans, make sure that the right one is marked primary. A study plan can be made primary from the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the Structure of studies page.
- Does your study plan correspond to your study right? If your study plan has a notification banner stating that "You do not have a study right that corresponds to your study plan or you have not registered for the current semester", create a new study plan and choose the right education from the My educations tab. Remember to choose the year you started your studies as the curriculum period for the study plan.
- Make sure that the course you are completing is in your primary study plan. To add courses to your study plan open up the selection assistant by clicking a headline or a sub-heading (headline text, not the arrow in front) in your study plan, and either selecting the course from an already offered selection, or by searching by name or code from the selection assistant's search field. You can also search and add the course to your course cart from the Search page, and add it to your study plan by using the Add to the plan functionality of the Structure of studies page. The correct version of the course is chosen by clicking the "Version:" menu underneath the name and code of the course unit on the course brochure (opened by clicking the blue course code link in the study plan), and activating this version to your study plan from the blue confirmation banner at the top of the page.
- Is the right completion method chosen? If the course is already in your primary study plan that corresponds to your study right, make sure that the Completion methods tab of the course brochure (opened by clicking the blue course code link in the study plan) has the right completion method chosen. If you cannot see anything on the Completion methods tab, select the newest version of the course by clicking the "Version:" menu underneath the name and code of the course unit, and activate this version to your study plan from the blue confirmation banner at the top of the page. After choosing the completion method the partially completed course will become a full course grade the following night.
- Have you waited until the next day? If the course is in your primary study plan that corresponds to your study right, and the right completion method is chosen on the course brochure's Completion methods tab, wait for the next day. The course should be compiled automatically the following night. If not, contact Sisu support.
