Principles for registration

Each student pursuing a doctoral or licentiate degree at JYU must formally register for attendance or non-attendance each academic year. Only students who have registered for attendance are allowed to participate in teaching, are entitled to supervision and can complete study units, credits and doctoral degrees.

If you do not intend to pursue studies or carry out dissertation research during the academic year, you can register for non-attendance. Please note that you need to be registered as an attending student for the semester during which you defend your doctoral thesis, apply for the degree and graduate.
