Presentation summary
Dr. Jussi Välimaa will discuss the historical development of teacher education in Finland from its beginning in the 19th century to the 21st century. Dr. Välimaa will focus on the influence of folk school teacher seminariums in defining and understanding teaching as a profession. Dr. Välimaa will also discuss the importance of folk school seminariums in the process of making of the Finnish nation. Presentation is based on historical synthesis of the development of teacher education in Finland that will be published as a book later this year.
