Can I participate in the Economists' Summer Seminar even if I haven't registered?
You can attend the sessions and plenaries of the Summer Seminar even if you haven't registered for the seminar. However, food is reserved based on registrations, so if you want to participate in coffee breaks or the evening cocktail event, you need to register for the seminar by the deadline. Naturally, if you want to present at the seminar, registration is also required.
Is the summer seminar free for participants?
The Summer Seminar has been able to remain free of charge (at least until 2025) with the help of sponsors (Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, Keskisuomalainen, Liikesivistysrahasto). However, please verify this information on the registration page.
Are all papers accepted for the seminar without a review process?
The program of the Summer Seminar is formed based on the submitted abstracts. Papers offered for presentation can be from the field of economics or business economics. There is no review process for the Summer Seminar. You can participate in the seminar without giving a presentation.
Do I need to send my paper to the seminar organizer?
Papers are not sent to the event organizer. If there is a discussant for your presentation in the program, presenters are requested to send their papers directly to the appointed discussant.

The economic forecaster award has been presented at the Economists' Summer Seminar since 1998, when OPK predicted the future economic development best. What are the (group) sessions at the seminar?
The presentations at the seminar are divided into sessions. Each session features research related to a specific theme (e.g., labor economics, education, finance, sustainable business, digital business). There are multiple sessions happening simultaneously at the seminar, and each participant can choose the one that interests them the most. Each presentation is typically allocated 25-30 minutes. The session chair is responsible for time management. Typically, the actual presentation takes 15-20 minutes, followed by a 5-minute commentary and a 5-minute general discussion.
Is there a computer and projector in all rooms? What about an overhead projector?
All rooms are equipped with a computer and projector, and possibly an overhead projector.
How can I get my presentation onto the computer if I can't access it (the computer is locked in a cabinet)?
The computers have an external, wired USB connector attached, where you can plug in a USB stick. The USB connector is located near the computer monitor on the desk.
Are there computer labs available for participants?
One or two computer labs are reserved for seminar attendees, located on the first floor of Agora, near the Hotel Alba side. Seminar guests will be provided with login credentials to access Agora's network.
How can I use the wireless network?
In Agora, there is an open visitor network, visible as jyu-guest. You do not need user credentials to use the wireless network. Eduroam network is also available in the university premises.
Where can I get lunch?
There are two university cafeterias on the seminar area where you can have lunch. Restaurant Piato is located in Agora. There is also Restaurant Maija in the A-building of Mattilanniemi. You can also dine in the Kärki building next to Agora or at Hotel Alba.
Where is Hotel Verso located? And Hotel Alba?
Hotel Verso is located right in the center of Jyväskylä, at Kauppakatu 35 (on the pedestrian street). Hotel Alba is situated on the Mattilanniemi campus area, in the immediate vicinity of the Agora building.
Where does the cruise ship (M/s Rhea/Suomi) depart from?
The cruise ship departs from Jyväskylä harbor. Walk along the shore towards the city center for about 10-15 minutes. See the map.
Can I get drinks and snacks on the ship? Is there a television on board?
On M/s Rhea/Suomi, everyone pays for their own food and drinks. Unfortunately, there is no television on the ship.
Is it cold on the ship? Are there indoor areas?
We will be cruising on Lake Päijänne. Especially if you plan to spend the evening on the ship's deck, it is advisable to wear extra clothing. The ship also has indoor areas.
