International collaboration

Internationalisation is one of the overarching objectives of the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥'s strategy. Our education is multidisciplinary, international and responsive to global skills needs, and we develop it in cooperation with our partners. We are active in international scientific communities and in strong societal dialogue and stakeholder cooperation.

International research collaboration

The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ actively engages in a wide range of international collaborations. These include fostering research, innovation, and knowledge exchange across disciplines.

We have particularly strong international collaborations in physics, especially in nuclear and particle physics. In biosciences, collaborations aim for ecological understanding and sustainable conservation efforts. JYU also advances exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sport psychology. Our international network seeks for improved teaching methods and educational research. We promote interdisciplinary research with our business partners, addressing global challenges by combining expertise from various fields, which aim solving societal challenges across all scales.

International educational collaboration

JYU has concluded multilateral and bilateral cooperative agreements on a university-level with many institutions of higher education around the world. JYU participates actively in international collaborative programmes.

Strategic partnerships

Talent Boost programme

The National Talent Boost programme is designed to attract and retain international talent, and to help with immigration. The Talent Boost programme is coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Our objective is to make Jyväskylä and Central Finland a highly attractive place in the eyes of international talents: a place to come for not only studies and research, but also for work, and a place to settle in and live with your family, even permanently.

Global networks

The internationalisation activities of strategic funding have been approved in agreements between higher education institutions and the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ is involved in several partnership projects and networks. The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning (GINTL) is a project jointly led by JYU and the University of Helsinki.

The Global Innovation Network for Teaching and Learning (GINTL) India is a network in which Finnish higher education institutions together with partners from India co-create research-based solutions to global educational challenges and collaborate in research and education.

GINTL focuses on teaching and learning, teacher training, curriculum, digital learning environments and educational design. The network also seeks opportunities to facilitate staff and student mobility initiatives between Finland and India in educational sciences and teacher training. GINTL India was initiated with funding by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland (MINEDU) and the network is being coordinated by Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥.

Unesco Chairs and Professorships

The four-year UNESCO Chair supports global and multidisciplinary networking in a changing world.

Launched in 1992, the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, which involves over 700 institutions in 116 countries, promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work. The programme supports the establishment of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks in key priority areas related to UNESCO’s fields of competence – i.e. in education, the natural and social sciences, culture and communication.

Through this network, higher education and research institutions all over the globe pool their resources, both human and material, to address pressing challenges and contribute to the development of their societies. In many instances, the networks and chairs serve as thinktanks and bridgebuilders between academia, civil society, local communities, research and policy-making.
