A smoke-free and fragrance-free campus
JYU fosters a healthy work and study environment and promotes the well-being of the members of the university community by encouraging everyone to follow the non-smoking and fragrance-free workplace policies.
We are a smoke-free study and workplace
Smoking, including vaping, is only permitted in designated areas on our campus, and we do not take smoking breaks during working hours. Tobacco products are not sold at cafes, lunch restaurants or other shops on campus.
Staff members can participate in the general group sessions for quitting smoking organised by the occupational health services, and the University reimburses 50% of the cost of nicotine replacement therapy. Discussions regarding efforts to quit smoking are part of health checks and other discussions with the occupational health employees. The Finnish Student Health Service provides support to students.
Consider others – Avoid using fragrances
Avoiding the use of strong perfumes is an easy way to take other people into consideration on campus. Strong fragrances can cause unpleasant symptoms, such as cold-like symptoms, headache, migraine, or nausea.
JYU recommends that all staff members, students, and visitors refrain from wearing fragranced products. Everyone can limit their use of different fragranced products, for example, by reducing the use of perfumes and after shave lotions.
