Quick guide to the accessibility of buildings

This quick guide indicates which buildings have or lack accessible parking spaces, entrance, lift or WC for persons with reduced mobility. Click on the building’s symbol to see a more detailed description.

• With a parking permit for people with reduced mobility, parking is permitted in the vicinity of these buildings: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, L, M, O, OPK, S, Lozzi, T, X, FMC, Viv, RUU, MaA, MaD, Ag, YS, NSC, VES.
• In the following buildings, entrances may be inaccessible for persons with reduced mobility: E, F, Lyhty, R, U2.
• Accessible lifts are available in the following buildings: B, K, N, T, Viv, FMC, RUU, Ag.
• Lifts are tight or doors narrow in buildings: A, C, D, G, H, L, M, S, X, Lozzi, MaA, MaD.
• There are no lifts in the following ���𳾾��Բ��������Գ�ä�쾱 buildings: E, F, I, J, O, R, U2, Lyhty.
• Accessible WCs can be found in buildings: A, B, C, G, H, K, L, M, N, O, S, T, Lozzi, OPK, U2, X, LL, Viv, FMC, RUU, MaA, MaD, Ag, YA, YNC, YFL, VES.
• No WC available for people with reduced mobility in the following buildings: D, E, F, I, J, P, R, Lyhty, YK

Facility classifications 

• Accessible: In its essential parts, the facility meets the F1 regulations and has been found to be functional. Accessible entrance, threshold no higher than 25 mm, ramp incline at most 8% (5 degrees), door width at least 850 mm; If access calls for a lift, the lift door width must be at least 850 mm, the length of the lift car at least 1400 mm and width 1100 mm.
• Partly inaccessible: In some of its parts, the facility does not fulfil the F1 regulations or is found to be otherwise lacking. Door width less than 850 mm, but at least 700 mm, the height of a threshold or low step at most 80 mm, ramp incline over 8 (>5 degrees).
• Not easily accessible: The facility has major obstacles such as passages narrower than 700 mm, thresholds higher than 80 mm, no lifts for moving between floors.
• Accessible parking for persons with reduced mobility.
• Accessible WC.

Hearing loops

Hearing loops can be found in the following university buildings /facilities:

• Seminarium (S), Old Assembly Hall S212

In addition, the University has movable hearing loop systems in Lähde, Ylistö, Ruusupuisto, and Agora. The movable systems of Ylistö, Ruusupuisto and Agora can be requested from the janitorial service points. In Lähde, these systems can be requested both from the janitor and from Digital Services (B315, 3rd floor).

Please note that the movable system may also require other arrangements for proper functioning.

• Partly inaccessible. Door width 800 mm, lift car size 1130 x 1290 mm.

WC

• Accessible WC. First floor, 10 m straight from the entrance, on the right. In between, a manually opened glass door.
• Accessible WC. Second and third floors, 4 metres to the right from the lift and then 6 metres to the right along the corridor, a WC on the right.

• Accessible parking. Two spaces near the entrance on the Building T side.

• Accessible. Entrance on the Building T side.
• Partly inaccessible. The main entrance, the ramp is quite steep (about 15%), doors fairly heavy, the door on the left-hand side can be opened automatically by pressing the button.

Lift

• Accessible. 20 metres forward from the main entrance, on the right at the end of the service desk, in the staircase behind a locked glass door, the locked doors on the second and third floors are opened upon request.
• Partly inaccessible. 25 metres forward from the main entrance, on the right in the staircase, opposite to the stairs: Lift car size 1240 x 1100 mm.

WC

• Accessible WC. Bottom floor, in the hall of the main staircase, next to the lift.
• Upper basement floor, on the right-hand side of the info desk, behind a glass door, next to the goods lift.
• Accessible WC. First floor, 10 metres to the right from the main entrance.
• Accessible WC. Second floor, from the main staircase door, 28 metres along the right-hand side corridor, WC on the left.
• Accessible WC. Third floor, from the main staircase door, 28 metres along the right-hand side corridor, WC on the left.

C Main Building

Parking

• Accessible parking. One space 25 m from the main entrance. Parking permitted with a parking permit also in the vicinity of the entrance so that it does not obstruct other traffic.

Entrance

• Accessible. The main entrance is accessible, manually opened doors are heavy.
• Partly inaccessible. Stairs and a steep ramp (12%) in front of the Lozzi-side entrance, manually opened doors fairly heavy.
• Partly inaccessible. The manually opened door of the Registry Office / Aalto Library entrance is heavy, threshold 60 mm.

Lift

• Partly inaccessible. To C1, to the front right from the main entrance, about 35 metres, near the Lozzi-side entrance. Lift car size 990 x 1480 mm. Especially for a large electric wheelchair, it is recommended to enter the lift by reversing into it because the door to the room is on the left-hand side of the lift. In the floor options, second floor goes to the Assembly Hall (C1), third floor to the stage.
• Partly inaccessible. The ground floor can be accessed by a stair lift, and from there you can continue further by a lift to the second, third and fourth floors. A janitor opens the door and assists with the use of lifts. Lift door width 770 mm, lift car size 1330 x 770 mm.
• Partly inaccessible. To Aalto Library from the Registry Office / Library door, 12 m straight forward behind the service desk and a locked glass door, there is a lift, car size 1420 x 850 mm.

WC

• Accessible WC. First floor, about 30 metres to the front right from the main door, behind the coat racks.
• Accessible WC. Ground floor, 12 m to the left from the door, 15 m from the lift door to the right along the corridor.

Rooms

• Partly inaccessible. Assembly Hall C1 can be accessed by lift both to the space for the audience and to the stage. Unobstructed access is available only to the very front of the room, with little space for moving.
• Not easily accessible. Lecture hall C2 is located on the second floor, accessible via the stairs only, not accessible by lift.
• Partly inaccessible. Lecture hall C3 is located on the third floor, accessible by a stair lift and a lift. The door is 820 mm wide, the front space is accessible, the ascending auditorium and fixed seats restrict movement.
• Partly inaccessible. Lecture Hall C4 is located on the third floor, accessible by a stair lift and lift. Ascending auditorium seating, free movement space 1100 x 3300 mm immediately next to the doorway.
• Partly inaccessible. Lecture hall C5 is located on the third floor, accessible by a stair lift and lift. In front of the door, there is a ramp, the platform at the door 1080 x 2080 mm. Unobstructed access to the front space only, the stage can be accessed via a ramp.

• Partly inaccessible. There is an appropriate ramp from the parking space to the door, but a handrail is missing. The platform in front of the door is quite small (1300 x 2200 mm) for turning a wheelchair. The front door is quite narrow (800 mm), and usually locked and the doorbell buttons are located high (1350–1500 mm).

Lift

• Partly inaccessible. The lift’s door is narrow, free width 790 mm.

WC

• Accessible WC in the basement, to the left from the lift to the object examination room, from there to the left from the door, about 5 metres, and a left turn, after which the WC is on the left.

H Historica

Parking

• Accessible parking. Parking with a parking permit in the vicinity of the entrance so that it does not obstruct other traffic, no marked spaces.

• Partly inaccessible. From the main door, 16 metres forward, a lift on the right, door width 800 mm, lift car size 1400 x 970 mm.

• Not easily accessible. A difficult, cobblestoned walkway leading the front door, a 100 mm high step, the outdoor is heavy, the only entrance to the hall.

• Accessible WC. 8 m to the front right from the entrance.

• Accessible parking. Parking with a parking permit in the vicinity of the entrance so that it does not obstruct other traffic, no marked spaces.

• Partly inaccessible. Right-hand doors in the middle. The right-hand door opens automatically from outside and from the inside by using the button. Threshold 40 mm.

• Accessible. The wing facing the indoor swimming pool, 10 metres straight forward from the door, a lift on the right. Lift car size 1320 x 820 mm.
• Accessible. In the middle, from the right-hand door 9 m on front right. Lift car size 1320 x 820 mm.

• Partly inaccessible. A lift is located 14 m to the front right from the main door, from the side door 26 m straight forward on the right. The hinged door is opened manually, width 800 mm, lift car size 1400 x 1060 mm.

• Accessible WC. 31 metres from the main door to the front right, 5 metres to the left from the end of the hall; from the side door, after the entry 5 metres on the right, WC on the right.

• Partly inaccessible. The entrance to the B wing, threshold 60 mm, a fairly heavy manually opened door.
• Partly inaccessible. The entrance at the end on the Mattilanniemi side, threshold 60 mm, but a fairly heavy manually opened door with a stair in front of it.

• Accessible. 20 metres to the left from the main door.
• Accessible. 30 metres to the right from the main door; from the B wing door 8 m to the left.

• Partly inaccessible. The lift’s door is quite narrow 800 mm.

WC

• Accessible WC is located on the second floor, 15 metres along the corridor on the left from the main door, and then 5 metres to the right, and the WC is on the left-hand side.

Parking

• Accessible parking. Driving to the parking area from about Survontie 9C. No own parking space available, but in the same parking area altogether three spaces of Physics and Nanoscience Center are available. Distance to the main entrance of the library 150 metres, to the main doors of the Department of Physics 30–40 metres, from which a passage through a connecting corridor to Building YK.

• Partly inaccessible. Threshold 30 mm. Entrance also possible via the Department of Chemistry building and Department of Physics through a connecting corridor.

Lift

• Not easily accessible. No lift in the hall of the YK Building. A lift can be found from the Dept. of Chemistry from where, for example, the lecture rooms on the first floors of the YK Building can be accessed via the connecting corridor.

WC

• Not easily accessible. No accessible WC for persons with reduced mobility.

• Accessible parking. Entrance to the parking area from Survontie 9C. Two parking spaces in front of the main door, a direct passage of 40 metres. A sloped curb on the pavement edge, height 40 mm.

• Accessible. From the main door 30 metres straight forward and then to the left.
