Equality, non-discrimination and accessibility

Our multicultural and international community, which respects each individual, is our richness and a source of inspiration.

Equality, non-discrimination and accessibility are important fundamental principles of the University’s activities. Our University and members of the University community are committed to treating every individual and group with respect and dignity.

The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ takes care of the quality and availability of guidance as well as the accessibility of education. We behave appropriately, are appreciative and support each other also in challenging situations. We promote equality and non-discrimination in our university community in accordance with the strategy and legislation as well as the aims set jointly with the university community.

The aims and development measures are described in strategy development programmes, the Equality, Non-discrimination and Accessibility Plan for 2025–2026.

Principles guiding equality and accessibility

The Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥'s Equality, Non-discrimination and Accessibility Plan guides the equality work of the university community. The current plan is valid until the end of 2026. The equality and equity objectives of our university community stem from the equality legislation, the university strategy and the strategic development programmes.

The University has a development group for equality, non-discrimination and accessibility. The purpose of the group is to monitor and promote the development of equality, non-discrimination and accessibility at JYU.

Accessibility at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥

Accessibility enhances the physical, psychological, social, and digital environment so that everybody can act equally with others irrespective of one’s personal qualities. Accessibility concerns all members of the university community, but especially those with impairments or learning difficulties, those who are aging or those who belong to cultural or language minorities. The decision on accessible education at the Ä¢¹½Ö±²¥ includes principles and responsibilities for the implementation of accessible environments and practices as well as necessary individual arrangements.
