Research-based development of education

The development of education and teaching is guided by common research-based principles, which include connectivity, meaning the connection between teaching and research, and societal interaction, as well as learner-centeredness.

Starting points and processes in development work

Development is based on the strategy education development programme and the values and objectives set out in it. The main starting point for education is the research-based approach, with a particular focus on certain development processes. These will be operationalised through the activities of education.

Four development processes have been identified: the curriculum process, the guidance process, the personnel process, and the working with knowledge process. These form the common basis on which development activities are anchored. These perspectives apply to all aspects of education and its development, including: degree programmes, continuous learning and education industry.

Connectivity and learner-orientation

There are two approaches to research-based teaching: the field-specific, research-oriented approach, and the pedagogical, teaching-based, approach. In university education, it is taken for granted that teaching in each field is based on research in the discipline. In addition, teaching in any discipline should draw from research related to teaching and learning.

The implementation and development of education and teaching is guided by common research-based principles, which are centred around two key principles: connectivity, i.e. the link between teaching and research as well as societal interaction, and learner-centredness.
