10 things to know about social media
1. Using common sense is recommended, even mandatory while using social media. Behaving foolishly might cost you your relationships or your work.
2. You represent (at the very least unofficially) your organization if you refer to your employer in your social media profile. Act accordingly.
3. Be careful not to provide too detailed information, pictures or other material of yourself. Familiarize yourself with the terms of use of the services you use. Remember, that the service provider might use the information you upload to the service without further notice
4. Check the privacy settings and change them accordingly to prevent the distribution of information to a larger audience than necessary
5. Respect the privacy of your family and friends. Not everyone wants to get their face on the internet.
6. Accept only those friend requests that are familiar to you
7. Do not talk about work related or confidential information outside of approved platforms. Remember, that the administrators can also access the material uploaded to a service.
8. If you suspect you have become a victim of a fraud or a security breach, do not hesitate to ask for help.
9. Use different passwords in different services.
10. Make sure that your computer and software are up-to-date and adequately protected (with a firewall and anti-virus protection).
