General guidelines

When applying to an international bachelor's degree programme at JYU, you must have completed or complete by a given deadline a qualification that gives eligibility to the corresponding level of higher education in the awarding country.

Depending on the qualification, you may be required to enter scanned copies of educational documents to your online application form on Studyinfo.fi. For most of the qualifications copies of the educational documents are required. We do not consider any attachments sent to us by email.

When preparing your attachments, please follow these guidelines to ensure the timely processing of your application:

  • The recommended file format is PDF. Alternatively, you can take high-quality photos of your documents (JPG or PNG). It is your responsibility to make sure the documents are legible.
  • Include all pages of the document. If a document is double-sided, include both sides. Combine documents consisting of multiple pages into one file.
  • Name your files as follows: Surname_Given name_document type. For example: Smith_John_degree certificate
  • Check that the documents are oriented correctly (i.e., not sideways or upside down).
  • JYU must be able to open the files without any passwords or identification data from the applicant.

Please see further information below, and note that deadlines and requirements for the documents can vary between qualifications.

Official translations

All application documents must be available in Finnish, Swedish or English. If the original document was written in some other language, an official translation of the documents must be submitted.

The translation is official if it has been done by:

  • the educational institution that awarded the degree, or
  • a certified translator (authorised translator). The certified translator’s stamp and/or signature must be on the translation. If the translation consists of multiple pages, each page must contain either the signature or the stamp of the translator.

During the application period, submit scanned copies of the official translations on to your online application form on Studyinfo.fi. In addition to translations, submit copies of the original documents in the original language; translations by themselves are insufficient.

We do not require translations of International Baccalaureate-, European Baccalaureate- and Reifeprüfung/Deutsches Internationales Abitur Diplomas.

We accept authorised translations from any country. To look for authorised translators based in Finland, please see maintained by the Finnish National Agency for Education.
