Open access publishing in research funded by the Research Council of Finland and the EU

Publications from research funded by the European Union, the Research Council of Finland, and other organizations committed to Plan S must be made immediately available.

Plan S

Plan S is an initiative aimed at promoting open access in scientific publishing. According to Plan S, all scholarly publications resulting from publicly funded research must be made immediately available. Plan S was developed by the coalition of research funders known as cOAlition S. The research Council of Finland and the European Commission are members of the cOAlition S network.

Three ways to achieve immediate open access for publications funded by cOAlition S members

In accordance with Plan S, immediate open access for research publications can be achieved through:

  1. Self-archiving the peer-reviewed manuscript without an embargo period,
  2. Publishing the article in a fully open access journal or on an open access platform, or
  3. Publishing in transformative hybrid journals that are committed to transitioning to an open access model.
